Bayern Munich humiliated Borussia Moenchengladbach 0-5 in the German League Cup
Bayern Munich humiliated Borussia Moenchengladbach 0-5 in the German League Cup which became the first humiliating defeat. Moenchengladbach became the first team to score five goals against Bayern Munich since Borussia Dortmund won 5-2 in the 2012 German Cup final.
Moenchengladbach also became the first team to score three goals in the first 21 minutes against Bayern in a German Cup match. Gladbach made a dream start as they took an early three-goal lead in 21 minutes thanks to Kouadio Kone and two goals from Ramy Bensebaini, both from the penalty spot.
Bayern had to wait until the 35th minute to get a shot on goal - but their comeback attempt would not last long. Breel Embolo made it 4-0 just after the break and then got his second six minutes later to send Gladbach into dreamland with a 5-0 win.
Bayern's crushing defeat was a shame because they went down in full force, including Robert Lewandowski and Serge Gnabry. Bayern have to thank goalkeeper Manuel Neuer for keeping the scoreline at five.
This humiliating defeat took Bayern Munich's sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic by surprise. “I was really surprised. We just weren't there. We didn't win a single tackle or challenge in the whole first half," said Salihamidzic.
“Everything that can go wrong becomes wrong. Gladbach did very well. We weren't there at all. A blackout. It shouldn't happen to us like that."
